Pokemon TCG 30th Anniversary: All About the "30th Celebration" Set 2026

Throughout the history of the Pokemon TCG – 30 years, over 100 sets, billions of cards printed – Japan has always received releases first. Always. This year, for the first time, everything will be different: the Pokemon TCG 30th Anniversary breaks with this tradition. The "30th Celebration" set will be released simultaneously worldwide, in all languages, on the same day. What it contains, why it's exciting for collectors and investors alike – and how it fits into historical context.

What is the 30th Celebration Set?

Those familiar with the 25th Anniversary will remember Celebrations from 2021 – a special set full of iconic reprints, classic Charizard, Gold Shiny Mew, and the Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection set. The 30th Celebration is the consistent evolution of this idea, but with significantly more ambition.

What has been confirmed so far: The set contains a mix of newly illustrated cards and reprints of legendary cards from 30 years of TCG history. The official teaser notably showcased the Charizard from the Base Set and the Crystal Lugia from Aquapolis – both icons of the game. Playable new cards expected also include Pikachu & Zekrom GX (originally from Team Up), Solgaleo GX (from the Sun & Moon Base Set), and other classics.

The community's term "Celebrations 2.0" is quite fitting – but the 30th Celebration is turning up significantly more dials.

The Three Biggest Innovations

1. First Worldwide Simultaneous Release

Japan has received every set before Europe saw it – usually two to three months earlier. The 30th Celebration breaks this pattern for the first time. All language versions will be released simultaneously. For the European market, this is a real win: no Japan import surcharge, no weeks of second-hand hype. The release is scheduled for September 16, 2026 (Japan) and presumably September 18, 2026 (international markets).

2. A Completely New Card Rarity

What initially looked like a graphical glitch in the teaser is actually a new rarity: Mew and Mewtwo were shown with an opalescent, pearlescent shimmer – a look that has not existed in the current TCG format. Details on the name of this rarity level and the exact pull rate are not yet known, but the symbolic meaning is clear: the 30th Celebration will have something no other set does.

3. All Cards Are Foil – Every Single One

Every booster of the 30th Celebration contains six cards instead of the usual five, and all cards are foil. There are no non-foil cards in this set. The pack price in Japan is consequently 360 Yen (instead of the usual 200). For collectors, this means: every pack delivers a visually high-quality experience – no sad revealing of a common without shine.

The Complete September/October Lineup

In addition to the main set, the 30th Celebration Premium Deck Set Espeon & Umbreon will be released in Japan on the same day – September 16, 2026: a pre-built 60-card deck themed around the Eeveelution family, including exclusive promo cards in the new anniversary rarity. Eeveelution collectors should already have this date marked on their calendars. A month later, on October 16, 2026, nine thematic 30th Celebration Card Sets will follow – one for each starter trio from all nine Pokemon generations. From Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle to Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. The cards each form a contiguous panoramic artwork of their region.

This makes the overall package unusual: it's not a single set, but an anniversary program staggered over several months.

What Collectors Can Learn from History

Those who want to know how anniversary sets evolve should look to the past:

20th Anniversary (2016): The official anniversary set was Generations – a special set with 83 cards, exclusively available in special Collection Boxes, never as a regular Booster Box. In the same year, XY Evolutions was also released, a separate set with reprints of the original Base Set cards. Both have proven to be value-stable in the long term: XY Evolutions displays now cost over 1,500 Euros, and the Charizard #11 Holo from this set regularly fetches four-figure prices as a PSA 10 card. Generations products are even harder to find due to their exclusive availability.

25th Anniversary (2021): Celebrations introduced reprints of iconic cards. The Gold Shiny Mew from this set was already over 100 Euros at release, the Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection is hard to find today for under 200 Euros. The 25th Anniversary Golden Box from Japan is currently valued at over 900 Euros.

The pattern is similar every time: high demand, limited supply, stable long-term value for sealed products.

The 30th Celebration has the profile to fall into the same category – with the difference that the worldwide simultaneous release structures the supply side differently than in previous anniversaries.

What Investors Should Know

Three points deserve special attention:

No Japan premium. Because Japan does not have a head start this time, the traditional import premium for Japanese versions is eliminated. The pricing of EU and EN goods will be more closely tied to supply and demand.

The hype cycle is already running. Prices for sealed products from previous anniversary years have been rising since the end of 2025. Those who wait for the release and then react will be behind the market.

Sealed beats singles long-term. Displays and Elite Trainer Boxes from anniversary sets have historically performed better than individual cards – except for PSA 10 examples of the absolute chase cards. For investors with a medium-term horizon, sealed products are the more stable path.

What We Don't Know Yet

For completeness: The English set name is not yet officially confirmed – the working title "30th Celebration" comes from credible leak sources, but TPCi has not yet finally confirmed it. Card list, product range, and MSRP for the EU market are expected in early summer 2026.
